One thing that is very important to practice as a professional photographer is keeping creative skills sharp. It becomes difficult to think outside the box when all you’re doing is what your clients are asking you to do. Clients expect us to be creative, but within the parameters of their direction.
One way I keep my creative skills sharp is by photographing things that interest me, like fashion and architecture. I remind myself that I am shooting for myself and not someone else or a business or corporation. This is my art! The basic idea is to try to capture images that are striking, compelling and hopefully speak to folks. Sometimes I capture an image that somebody is interested in purchasing as art and that makes the idea of doing this for myself even sweeter.

“City at Night” is the Detroit photography series that Jeff White has been working on for the past (15) years. Jeff has been venturing into the darkened landscape of the Motor City photographing captivating images of Detroit’s historic abandoned buildings. As the city evolves, Jeff’s Detroit photography also evolves, capturing vibrant images of the renaissance of Detroit, Michigan! Jeff White’s work has been celebrated as a one-of-a-kind experience…capturing photos of Detroit’s historic and modern buildings in a way that has been described as surreal, sometimes haunting and always artistic.
